About Me

Hjalmer

I'm a technology enabler. I was the kid at home who set the VCR clock and the digital watches. While I would happily do these things, if anyone asked I would be happy to explain how to do it or why the strange procedure made sense.

In the mid-nineties, I began to work professionally in technology support. I haven't looked back. I am the person on the phone who takes your call for help. I am the person who comes to your desk or your home who deciphers what you mean when you say "My computer is busted." I write instructions and documentation. I work behind the scenes in your server room. I mentor the newbies and take notes from the elite.

When it comes down to it, hardware or software, PC or server, Windows or Mac OS, wired or wireless, smartphone or netbook, these are tools and are means to an end. I consider it my job to help you know which is right, to help you learn to use your tools effectively, and, God forbid, to help you know what to do when something doesn't work.

In my work and my life, I commit to learning the benefits of the new while bringing forward the wisdom of established best-practices.

Personal Projects

The Arcane and the Obvious is my personal web journal where I relay personal technical revelations and puzzle out the meaning of it all.

The Drawing Room is a dream. It's the house I would like to have and the road I take to get there. Fits and starts for now, but eyes on the prize.

East West Recipe Box is a place to share the good food we love.

Group de Ville is an admission I am a closet gear-head. I started a corresponding pool on Flickr. I used to own a gold '99 Deville. I named her Ginger. I miss her.
